EGR / CARBON CLEANING

The EGR valve’s function is to control the flow of exhaust gas being recirculated depending on the engine load. It helps exhaust gases to re-circulate in the engine twice and reduces the emission of harmful NOx. After some time, it can get dirty and reduce performance which will then require an EGR cleaning before any further damage.
What is Carbon build up?
Carbon is a by-product of any combustion process. As your engine burns fuel, either diesel or petrol, carbon builds up in the intake manifolds and exhaust manifolds, as well as in the cylinders.
VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) engines, in particular, have an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve, which recycles a portion of the exhaust gases back into the cylinders to be re-burned. While this significantly reduces the emissions released into the atmosphere; it also leads to a large build-up of carbon in the engine itself.
As this carbon builds, your acceleration slows, there may be rough idling, or severe engine knocking. At NOVO, we make sure your engine is running as clean as possible to maintain the engine's performance and longevity.

DPF CLEANING / RESTORATION

Diesel engines have a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) which is designed to remove soot and other fine particles from the exhaust gases. The collected particles are eventually burned off in an automatic regeneration process. However, this regeneration process takes 5-10 MINUTES and requires the car to be at operating temperature while driving at highway speeds. Constant short trips tend to disrupt this process and lead to a blocked DPF.
A partially blocked DPF leads to harder engine starting, slight loss of power and lower fuel efficiency. An almost completely blocked DPF could force the engine into limp mode where power is cut and RPM is limited to approximately 2,500 in an attempt to reduce further damage.

- Onboard Regenerations for partially blocked DPFs
- Bench Cleans. This involves the removal of the DPF for a chemical clean on a state of the art machine. We also conduct flow testing before and after to ensure the best possible clean has been performed.

PERFORMANCE / RESTORATIVE TUNING

At NOVO we now offer custom engine and transmission tuning, using Dynapack Dynamometers. These are hub mounted dynos that eliminate the loss experienced by wheel slip, compared to traditional rolling floor dynos. This increases sensitivity and leads to incredibly accurate run to run results.
On top of our custom tuning software we offer additional hardware and software changes such as:
- Turbo internals upgrades
- Activate Launch Control ( dependant on ecu models )
- Sports display Calibration
- Speed limiter removal
- Custom ECU and TCU remapping ( RPM limit change, Burbles/Overrun, eco tuning for improved fuel economy )
TORQUE INCREASE
Torque is a crucial part of generating power from a car’s engine, as it represents the load an engine can handle to generate a certain amount of power to rotate the engine on its axis.
Diesel engines provide more torque at low engine revs whereas petrol engines provide more torque at higher engine revs.
A high torque enables efficient and energy-saving driving. A high engine power enables a car to accelerate quickly and reach a high top speed.

One other advantage is optimised fuel efficiency and the ability to enhance the power of your vehicle. This occurs when you fine-tune the fuel injection rate and time, which encourages a more efficient fuel burn to produce more power.
Fuel can also be saved if it is pressure-sensitive. This improves the efficiency of the diesel-air mixture in the engine. When driving in a higher gear, this extra fuel efficiency comes in handy because the motor is programmed to rev less, resulting in less fuel being injected as you sit in that higher gear.

This means there’s no risk of reducing the lifespan of your engine. ECU remapping does not damage or replace any engine parts; it simply changes the way your engine works, and won’t add any more stress.

DSG / MECHATRONIC SERVICING

Gearbox clutches
To increase vehicle performance and response time, car manufacturers have developed Dual Clutch Transmissions, also known as Direct – Shift Gearbox (DSG). This is where two traditional gearboxes and clutches have been meshed into one unit, providing increased fuel economy and seamless shift times. These gearboxes require extra care and regular maintenance and at NOVO, we provide these services, including:
- Transmission servicing, including oil + oil filter replacement for 6 and 7 speed wet clutches
- Mechatronic unit repairs / rebuilds and replacements; and we also replace the solenoids in the 6 speed units with upgraded components to make shifts smoother.
- Dual-clutch and flywheel replacements
- Diagnostics
While all hatches and sedans in the Volkswagen Audi Group (VAG) now incorporate DSG gearboxes, VW SUVs have maintained the traditional automatic style gearboxes with Torque Converters. We also provide maintenance services for:

INJECTOR TESTING / RESTORATION

Diesel Fuel Injectors supply the correct volume of fuel at a specified time into the combustion chamber to be burnt. Modern injectors are electronically controlled and can operate multiple times a second. Without regular maintenance, they are prone to becoming clogged, leading to:

At NOVO, we have a state-of-the-art machine that allows us to flow test, rebuild and re-code common rail injectors back to OEM Standards.
Recoding allows us to adjust for engine wear and tear and validate that the injector is performing as it did when new. This leads to reduced emissions and restored fuel economy.
