In order to keep your car running smoothly, it is important to stay on top of its maintenance. Depending on the make and model of your vehicle, as well as how often you drive it, you will need to bring it in for either a Minor or Major Service every few months or so. But how can you tell the difference? Keep reading to find out.

What’s the Difference?

A Minor Service generally includes an oil filter change, engine oil change, and a full car check-over. This type of service is often part of a logbook service schedule. It can also be referred to as a basic or general service.

On the other hand, a Major Service includes all of the above, plus additional checks and replacements. This might include things like checking and refilling your coolant levels, brake fluid levels, and power steering fluid levels. The air filter and spark plugs will also be checked and replaced if necessary.Major Services are not part of a logbook service schedule, but they are generally recommended for people with cars that are out of their logbook service schedule, needing to identify an issue but still requiring an oil change, or those who simply want to stay within budget.

How Often Should I Service My Car?

The frequency with which you need to bring your car in for servicing depends on the make and model of your vehicle, as well as how often you use it. However, most manufacturers recommend that you have a Minor Service every 15,000km or 1 year (whichever comes first), and a Major Service every 30,000km or 12 months (whichever comes first). These guidelines differ between manufacturers and we encourage you to give us a call if you don’t know.

Of course, these are only general guidelines. For more specific advice, consult your car’s owner’s manual or give our team of experts a call today.
